Sunways is growing, and we are so excited to welcome our newest family member, Summer Dunn. Summer is going to be taking the lead on operations and helping to drive the Sunways mission of helping families and caregivers navigate the senior healthcare maze. Like the rest of the Sunways team, Summer embodies the Sunways core values of optimism, empathy, advocacy, transparency, and empowerment. She has a medical background and is passionate about health and wellness. Learn more about Summer below…

Tell Us A Little About Yourself:

My educational background is focused on medicine and biological sciences. I graduated from USF in 2017 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Biology. My intention after graduation was to enter the medical field clinically as a practitioner. However, my main passion in life is practicing health and wellness by living a healthy lifestyle. I quickly realized that I could share this passion with more people outside of a clinical setting. I practice yoga daily, love walking the beach, soaking up the sun, and healing my body with whole foods from the Earth. I would love to one day own a yoga studio, and teach people the act and beauty of living mindfully.

In the meantime, I am so excited to join the Sunways team! My short-term goal is to learn as much as I can about the business of managing a company and help Sunways improve efficiency so we can better serve people. My long-term goal is to utilize my medical knowledge to provide seniors with resources to improve their overall quality of life and make potential transitions to assisted living facilities more seamless. I immediately felt like my goals align with the mission here at Sunways. We are so passionate about helping those within the extensive elderly population here in Florida, and hopefully, very soon, provide helpful services to seniors nationwide.

One of my favorite quotes by Dr. Bradley Campbell is, “The day we choose love, nature, and each other over money, medication, and low-quality food is the day we start to save the world.”

 Where are you from?

I am from Ann Arbor, Michigan. The north holds a very sweet place in my heart because my family owns a lake house in a small town right outside of Ann Arbor. I spend a few weeks up there every summer water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and visiting my loved ones who still live there year-round. I have lived full time in Sarasota Florida since 2008, and am 100% a Florida girl. I love my hometown, but if I never have to see snow again I will live a happy life.

What is your previous work/ education experience?

I have worn many hats. I have an extensive catering, hospitality, and foodservice background. The service industry is a lot of fun, and has taught me so so much! I have waited tables, bartended, and catered many weddings and events ever since I was in high school. On the medical side, I have scribed in the Emergency Department at Manatee Memorial Hospital, researched for Mote Marine Laboratory, and worked as a phlebotomist for Sarasota Memorial Hospital. I am a skilled phlebotomist and have been practicing for almost 6 years now. I draw labs for newborn infants, as well as physically devastated patients in the ICU. I enjoy this clinical work. The best part of the job is holding someone’s hand, and bringing them even the slightest bit of comfort during their hospital stay.

What do you do for fun?

Yoga, yoga, yoga! I am a certified yoga instructor and have extensive personal home practice. I also love to get outdoors. My ideal day would be walking 5 to 10 miles on the beach, and then heading home to unwind by cooking a fabulous meal and curling up with my cats to watch a good movie.

We are so excited to have Summer on the Sunways team! Welcome to the family, Summer!
