We would like to recognize everyone who is currently caring for an aging loved one, and highlight the origins of this recognition. It was the Caregiver Action Network that initially began recognition of caregivers in 1994. Shortly after, President Clinton signed the first National Family Caregiver (NFC) Presidential Proclamation in 1997 (United States Census Bureau). As a nation, we now recognize and honor family caregivers every November.
It is tiresome work that includes managing schedules, doctors appointments, activities, therapy, hiring additional private duty caregivers, and general coordination with other family members. When everyone is working together it can tremendously lighten the caregiver load. If you start to feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or that you are lacking support, please reach out to us at Sunways. We have resources and recommendations for Senior Day Care, Respite Care, Private Duty Companies with reliable caregivers, and so much more! Even exploring resources and options can feel like a daunting task when you are a primary caregiver. We understand and are here to help with vetted resources and referral partners.
Who takes care of your family? This month try to do something special for them. It can be as simple as a “thank you.”
From all of us at Sunways to all the caregivers out there, THANK YOU! We see you, and we are here to help.
